If Whangara can control play as well again in their own circle, they will create problems for the students’ attack.
Whangara goal defence Tania Hill will be a key component of that, along with Tiara Weir.
Girls’ High coach Irene Takao said she was not expecting an easy game tomorrow night.
“My girls will go into the match with a positive mindset and do their best,” she said.
“They have the opportunity to rise to the occasion and not be fazed by the quality of their opposition.”
Takao said consistency in their play was what she most wanted to see.
Last time out, Girls’ High were demolished by HSOG 85-41, so tomorrow night they get the chance to redeem themselves with a stronger performance.
The second match, between Taste One HSOG and Claydens Waikohu 1, could be much tighter.
Whangara knocked HSOG off their attacking stride last week with their solid circle defence, and disrupted their flow through court.
HSOG coach Tanya Owen said it was her team’s worst performance of the season.
She will want to see much better finishing tomorrow night.
High School Old Girls will be fired up.
“We certainly expect them to be and that’s what we intend to be, too,” Waikohu coach Cheryl Te Rito said.
Waikohu were outplayed by YMP Sunshine Brewery last Wednesday night and they will want to rebound.
“We’ve done a lot of work in training since last Wedneday night,” Te Rito said.
“Cut down the error rate . . . that’s our key aim tomorrow night.
“We will try to get the start that we want, minimise our mistakes and capitalise on theirs.
“It’s going to be tough, but I believe the girls are up for it.
“They will take it as just another game.”
The match starts at 7.30pm.
