Waikanae SLS Club reign supreme

WAIKANAE Surf Life Saving Club made it a hat-trick of Ralph Morse Memorial Shield victories at the Eastland Port Champion of the Bays carnival over the weekend.

The carnival was a three-in-one event, with the three Gisborne clubs battling for the Ralph Morse Shield, the Bay of Plenty clubs vying for the BoP top club title and all clubs in with a shot for the Champion of the Bays overall honours.

Waikanae won the Ralph Morse Shield with a total of 380 points, with Midway second on 199 and Wainui third on 35.

Mount Maunganui won the BoP top club title with 395 points from Papamoa (182) and Omanu (117).

The Mount also won the Champions of the Bay title with 290 points from Waikanae (179) and Papamoa (107.50).

The Gisborne clubs are building towards the next major carnival, the Eastern Regional Championships at Mount Maunganui from January 26-28.

The junior version of the Eastern Regionals is at Ohope on February 10 and 11.
