Poverty Bay-East Coast player/manager Dwayne Russell got his Freyberg Masters national interprovincial golf campaign off to a winning start at Motueka this morning.
Russell, at No.2 in the five-man team, defeated Bryan Cantley 1-up as PBEC were beaten 3½-1½ by Southland on the Motueka course.
PBEC No.3 Tony Akroyd battledback from 4-down to grab a half with Simon Boland.
No.1 and captain Anaru Reedy lost 5 and 4 to Doug Carmichael, No.4 Pete Bremner was beaten 5 and 4 by Ngarimu Paraki and No.5 David Solomann fell 3 and 2 to Ewan Clark.
