Tharin Cox-Peratiaki set a new mark of 6.05m in the senior boys’ long jump and his 100m time of 11.84 seconds was just 0.18 of a second off the record.
Darius Waititi-Leach jumped 5.69m to break the intermediate boys’ long jump record.
The overall champions were — Kyle McVey (junior boys), Braithwaite (junior girls), Chirac Ngatai (intermediate boys), Perano (intermediate girls), Cox-Peratiaki (senior boys) and Westrupp (senior girls).
n Maddie Wilson broke her own record on the way to winning the intermediate girls’ overall title at Gisborne Girls’ High School’s athletics championships.
Wilson’s 1.66 metres added 1 centimetre to the high jump record she set last year.
One other record fell on the day — Marama Walker-Jones’s 55.1m effort broke the previous junior girls’ cricket ball throw record of 53.6m.
The overall champions were Christy Tate (senior), Wilson (intermediate) and Jessie Kapene (junior).
