GISBORNE will be represented at the World Darts Federation World Cup in Kobe, Japan, next month.

Tahuna Irwin leaves with the New Zealand team at the end of this month, and Lynmarie Edwards will go as a manager. Both are members of the Brezz’n Darts Club.

Play runs from October 3 to 7.

The WDF World Cup has been held every two years since 1977. Women’s events have been included since 1983, and youth events since 1999.

The New Zealand men’s team members are: Cody Harris, Mark Cleaver, Greg Moss and Tahuna Irwin.

The women’s team members are: Judy Fenton, Jo Steed, Tina Osbourne and 12-year-old Taylor-Marsh Kahaki.

STALLIONS edged out the Pumas, 13-8, in a close match in Brezz’n Darts Club Tuesday night competition.

In the first set of singles, Stallions captain Kazius Unuwai set the stage by defeating Pumas captain Ike Te Ahorangi 2-1.

Pumas hit back, Rendall McDonald defeating Edward Brown 2-1, and Kriss Larby defeating Kane Akurangi 2-1.

Stallions then went on a run, Patrick White, Chris Beattie and Rocky Monika defeating Jacob Larby, Brian Walters and Sonia Tom respectively, 2-1 in each case.

Stallions led 4-2 at this stage, dominated the pairs 6-3, and needed one more game for the win.

But in the reverse singles, Pumas took the first three games. Te Ahorangi defeated Monika 2-0, McDonald defeated Beattie 2-1, and Kriss Larby defeated White 2-1.

That reduced Stallions’ lead to 10-8 with three games to go, and it looked like the Pumas were on a roll.

Stallions came back strongly, though, convincingly winning the last three games. Akurangi defeated Jacob Larby 2-0, Brown defeated Walters 2-0, and Unuwai defeated Tom 2-0 to make the final score 13-8.
