Rhinos got one back on Tigers, beating them 16-5 in Brezz’n Darts Club winter league A Grade competition on Tuesday.

In the first set of singles, Rhinos took the first three games. Marcus Leach defeated Tipi Eyles 3-1, New Zealand Darts Council 2018 youth boys’ champion Errol Tamihana defeated Shiloh Henry 3-0 and Tyson Eyles defeated Teretu Te Moananui 3-2.

Tigers came back and won the next three singles games, Cory Timothy defeating Joe Kiri Jnr 3-1, Toby Ratapu defeating Hayden Kiri 3-0 and Hukanui Brown defeating Joe Kiri Snr 3-2 to tie it up at 3-3 going into the pairs.

Rhinos dominated the pairs, winning the first three games. Tigers won the fourth game, but from there on it was all Rhinos. They won the last five pairs games to clinch the match at 11-4 before the reverse singles.

Rhinos dominated the reverse singles, Leach defeating Brown 3-1, Tamihana defeating Ratapu 3-0, Tyson Eyles defeating Timothy 3-0, Hayden Kiri defeating Henry 3-1 and Joe Kiri Snr defeating Tipi Eyles 3-2. Only Te Moananui won for Tigers in the reverse singles, defeating Joe Kiri Jnr 3-2. At the end, Rhinos were ahead 16-5.

The B Grade matches between Ruahine and Scorpions, and Tao Matarau and Pythons both went to the wire.

Scorpions beat Ruahine 8-7. In the pairs, Scorpions had the edge, 5-4.

In the singles, Scorpions’ John Lynch defeated Pots Te Kira 3-1, Ruahine’s Sin Tupene defeated Antz Hulley 3-0 and Ruahine’s Johnny Smith defeated Ross Harris 3-2. That made it 6-6 with three games to go.

Scorpions’ Skippy Royle defeated Tom Te Kira 3-1, Ruahine’s Chris Te Moni defeated Bill Allen 3-1 and, in the decider, Scorpions’ Vic Mackey defeated John Ahuriri 3-2 for a final score of Scorpions 8 Ruahine 7.

The Tao Matarau-versus-Pythons clash also went down to the last game, Tao Matarau taking it 8-7.

In the pairs, Pythons had the edge, 5-4.

In the singles, Tao Matarau’s NZDC 2018 junior boys’ champion Hunter Eyles defeated Kiri Hawea 3-2 and elder brother Irie Eyles defeated Summer Takurua 3-2 to put Tao Matarau ahead, 6-5.

Pythons come back at Tao Matarau, Hine Wharehinga defeating Te Waiawa Irwin 3-2 and Temple Edwards defeating Brayden Pokai-Giddens 3-0 to give Pythons a 7-6 lead with two games to go.

But Tao Matarau anchors Tamati Irwin and Ani Tangira beat Grace Rakei 3-1 and Shannan Eyles 3-2 respectively to give Tao Matarau the 8-7 win.
