The captains of the premier men’s and women’s champions were named Poverty Bay Hockey’s players of the year at the association’s prize-giving following the weekend’s grand finals.

Kohere Tupara, of the YMP men, and Jade Stacey, of GMC Green women, were honoured for outstanding seasons.

Awards —Women

First-round A Grade winners, Kerekere Cup: YMP A. Runners-up, George Tupara Trophy: GMC Green.

First-round B Grade winners, PBHA Secretary’s Cup: GMC Kowhai. Runners-up, FH Griffin Cup: GMC Gold.

Most points in competition at the end of Round 2 pool play — A Grade, Pepere Family Trophy: GMC Green.

B Grade, Tupara Family Trophy: GMC Gold.

Finals — A Grade winners, Rose Doleman Trophy: GMC Green. Runners-up, Hine Hooper Cup: YMP A.

Men

First-round winners, Caledonia Shield: YMP A. Runners-up, Turbitt Cup: THC.

B Grade winners, Neil Hopps Registrars Trophy: LOB NZ Fruits. Runners-up, Brown Cup: LOB Masters.

Overall awardsOutstanding achievement acknowledgement, Upshot Memorial Trophy, contribution by an under-16 player: Aiden Scragg.

Top female goalscorer over the whole competition, Lynne Tupara Cup: Courtney Onekawa (33 goals).

Top male goalscorer over the whole competition, Makarauria “Boy” Tuhou Shield: Jereme Taylor (42 goals).

Community Umpire of the Year, recognising outstanding service and commitment to his/her community: Henry Mohi.

Community Coach of the Year, for outstanding coaching of teams within his/her community: Wade Manson, Hanoa Morete.

Club Volunteer of the Year, for outstanding service and commitment to his/her club: Allen Hurne.
