EASTLAND Port Gisborne Trampoline Club competitors continued their medal haul from recent events in winning 15 medals at the Auckland champs.

“We took nine kids away and they all came home with medals,” said club coach Doug Callahan.

“Medal-wise, it’s been a good year. This is the third competition in a row that all our trampolinists have won medals.

“But it’s not just about the medals. It’s the performances that are particularly pleasing, especially when you see them improving from previous competitions.”

Callahan said Leah Scholefield and Raine Lamont-Milner were well on track for the Australian nationals at Melbourne in two weeks.

“Leah won gold on tramp in the 13-15 years sub-junior international class and backed that with a gold medal-winning display on double-mini.

“Raine, competing in the 10 years and under division, won two gold medals and one silver,” said coach Callahan.

He won the tramp and synchro (with Hamilton’s Jackson Stone) and was second on double-mini.

“Raine and Jackson will compete in synchro in Melbourne.”

Riker Rolls (8yrs and under) showed his potential with three gold medals in tramp, DM and synchro alongside clubmate Seth Miller.

“Riker’s only eight but he stepped up to the 11-12yrs division for synchro,” Callahan said. “Our next champs are the New Zealand nationals in Auckland in June and when I told Riker he would have to compete in the 10yrs and under, he was dead keen to go.”

Kaiya Huta, who had the highest degree of difficulty in the sub-junior international trampoline, had to settle for silver.

“It’s not just about degree of difficulty; you also need the form to go with it and, for once, Kaiya was a little bit off. But we all know he will bounce back and be on form at the nationals.”
