TRAMPOLINE

TWO of Gisborne’s best trampolinists have had ideal preparation for a world championships qualifier.

Kaiya Huta, 17, and Leah Scholefield, 16, won two gold medals each at the North Island champs in Rotorua last weekend.

That should stand them in good stead for this weekend’s trial in Auckland, where they aim to qualify for November’s world champs in Japan.

Gisborne club coach Doug Callahan said the pair had had a good build-up.

They both won gold medals in the trampoline and double-mini disciplines in Rotorua.

“They performed extremely well under pressure and got the results,” Callahan said.

He took a team of 15 to Rotorua for trampoline and tumbling and they won 12 gold medals, six silver and two bronze.

“They all trained hard before going and the results showed in the medal tally,” Callahan said.

Lily Arnold won gold on trampoline by a healthy margin in the 11-and-12-year girls’ age group.

She was also second in double-mini for 11-12yr girls and second again in the synchronised category, but in the 15-16yr age group with Napier’s Abigail Bennett.

Taylan Barber and Tegan Hayward won gold in the synchronised section for 11-12yr girls, well clear of their nearest rivals.

Ariki Campbell claimed gold on trampoline for 13-14yr boys and teamed up with Riker Rolls for gold in synchronised.

Hayley Rolls, 8, competing in tumbling for the first time, won gold in her 8-and-under age group.

Capria Tamatea claimed silver in the 11-12yr girls’ tumbling.

Callahan said his trampolinists and tumblers would train hard for the next two months ahead of October’s nationals in Auckland.
