RUGBY

The Poverty Bay Town and Country squads have been announced.

The Town versus Country game acts as a final trial for the Poverty Bay Heartland side.

It will have a different format — three 30-minute periods with scores restarting at the beginning of the second and third periods.

Where previously selected players have changed teams from town to country-qualifying, or vice versa, they are selected for the Gisborne Herald Town or PGG Wrightson Country side they originally played for.

Several players from the senior one competition are included in the squads. Wairoa Athletic and Tapuae players are classified as Town players.

Poverty Bay Heartland head coach and Town team coach Tom Cairns said it was difficult to shorten the team lists.

“So many players deserve the opportunity to play at a higher level after outstanding efforts for their clubs,” he said.
