Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa’s win against Gisborne Girls’ High School took Ngatapa into second place on the women’s competition table with one round to go this weekend before the competition is split.
“Girls’ High scored first and put pressure on Ngatapa,” Scragg said.
“The Ngatapa girls responded and scored twice before halftime.”
Ngatapa led 2-1 at the break.
“Three second-half goals to left-winger Jamie Humphreys made the difference and secured a deserved win for Ngatapa.”
GMC Kowhai’s solid 7-0 win against YMP B secured them a top-five finish.
“It was all Kowhai for most of the match,” Scragg said.
“They were just so dominant and showed us again how dangerous they will be at the business end of the season.”
As for the men’s games, Scragg said that while LOB A defeated LOB Masters 5-0, they had room for improvement, “particularly in their attack”.
YMP A continued on their unbeaten way in the men’s grade, scoring 10 goals against Gisborne Boys’ High School.
“Striker James Torrie and his eight goals provided the individual highlight across the round,” Scragg said.
“Eight is a huge number of goals for one player to score and I cannot remember the last time anyone did that in our competition.”
