THE Super Rugby form of former Gisborne Boys’ High School first 15 player Isaia Walker-Leawere is earning high praise from Hurricanes coach John Plumtree.
The 22-year-old will make his second consecutive start for the Canes in their clash with the Blues at Eden Park tonight.
Ruatoria-raised Walker-Leawere has impressed Plumtreesince filling the void left by injured lock Sam Lousi. The 1.97-metre, 122-kilogram Leawere had probably his best game in a Hurricanes jersey in last weekend’s win over the Rebels.
“He got the pass mark from me, which I was really hoping for,” Plumtree told NZ Stuff.
“His ability to be able to reload and get back into positions where he can benefit the team, and his attack around his support and carry game, was good.
“The parts away from the ball defensively he was good and he put in some really good tackles. His work rate was nice and high, which was his goal, so I’m really pleased about that for him.”
