GISBORNE triathlete Tayler Reid finished down the field in the latest International Triathlon Union series race in Leeds at the weekend.
Reid was up with the pace in the swim and cycle legs, but faded in the run to place 39th.
He came out of the water at the endof the 1.5-kilometre swim in second place, just behind South African Henri Schoeman.
A large group developed on the 38.62km cycle and Reid was still in touch at the start of the 10km run. However, he could not keep up with the pace and crossed the finish line in 1 hour 49 minutes 27 seconds, well adrift of winner Jacob Birtwhistle, of Australia, in 1:45.12. American Matthew McElroy (1:45.19) was second and veteran Spaniard Javier Gomez (1:45.21) third.
Sam Ward led the New Zealand effort with an impressive fifth in 1:45.42. Hayden Wilde was 16th in 1:46.33 and Ryan Sissons 25th in 1:47.33.
