Superstock driver Peter Rees runner-up in national champs

Veteran stockcar and superstock racer Peter Rees went home from the New Zealand Superstock Championships in Christchurch on Saturday a happy man.

He finished runner-up by one point after leading going into the final championship heat.

Nevertheless, he was thrilled to get the 2NZ number on his car.

Rees, a member of the Gisborne Speedway Club along with one of his sons, Ethan, said these days he went to race meetings like the superstock nationals “just for fun”.

He said it felt “pretty awesome” to get that close to another 1NZ crown.

He won the superstock championships three years ago, and has been 2NZ before.

In stockcars he won five national titles, with a 2NZ and 3NZ as well.
