BADMINTON Eastland super veterans returned from the first round of their 2016 super veterans’ inter-association Division 2 competition in Rotorua with two losses.

In the team were local players Linda White and Annabel Riwaka from the Patutahi club; Robert Cameron, Kevin Lee, Helen Morley and Kahu Brown from the Gisborne club; Tony Bloomfield, a Hawke’s Bay loan player who also plays in the Eastland veterans’ team; and Tony Jackson, a last-minute fill-in player from Rotorua.

The first tie of the day was against North Harbour.

The men’s doubles were all close three-game matches but Eastland won only one.

Bloomfield and Jackson took the first game 21-19, were beaten in the second 21-12, and — with determination and unexpected shots — were able to hold off the opposition to win 24-22.
