BADMINTON

AN Eastland team will travel to Feilding this weekend for the first round of the 2019 inter-association super veterans’ Division 2 badminton competition.

Last year Eastland were seventh in the competition. This weekend they play Oroua, who did not win a tie last year, and new team Wellington North.

Eastland team members are Kevin Lee from the Gisborne Badminton Club; Ron Prebble, Kevin Taylor, Sheree Gray, Linda White, Annabelle Riwaka and Ruth Ledger, from the Patutahi club; and Matheus Batlajeri, a loan player from Manawatu. Non-travelling reserve is Bruce Ledger.

Helen Morley, a member of the team last year, has retired from competitive badminton, and loan player Ivor Holland, from Thames Valley, had to withdraw from the team.

Sheree Gray has returned to the team after a year off and Kevin Taylor will make his debut in the super veterans’ team. He has not played competitively since 2015, when he was in the veterans’ team.
