Flanker Callum McDonald was named representative player of the year at the Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union annual prize-giving on Saturday night.

McDonald collected the Paul Sceats Memorial Trophy for his efforts in his first Heartland Championship season for Poverty Bay.

Andrew Petelo was named best forward and Andrew Tauatevalu best back.

Brown answers SOS callEddie Brown junior was thrown into the cauldron of the national interprovincial golf tournament in Christchurch this morning.

Brown answered an SOS call from Poverty Bay-East Coast manager Dave Keown after team member Andrew Higham withdrew because of a family bereavement.

PBEC did not have a travelling team reserve to call on.

Brown headed south late yesterday afternoon to join younger brother Hukanui, William Brown, Anaru Reedy and Peter Kerekere at the week-long matchplay tournament on the Clearwater course.

Eddie Brown junior becomes a double representative, as he was in the PBEC team who competed at the Freyberg Masters in Taupo this month.

PBEC were to face Bay of Plenty this morning and Waikato this afternoon.
