The team, a combination of current Boys’ High players, Poverty Bay and Ngati Porou East Coast Heartland players, beat Brothers, from Napier, 52-5. Poverty Bay sevens coach Brent Mokomoko and assistant coach, former All Black and NZ Olympic sevens gold medal winner Rico Gear, are taking a team to asevens tournament in Cambridge this weekend.
It is the final trial game before the pair pick a Bay team to compete at the central regional nationals qualifiers tournament at Levin on December 12.
Boys’ High players Isaia Walker-Leawere, Angus McDonald, Hunter Mokomoko and Andrew Tauatevalu are not travelling this weekend as they prepare for the National secondary schools Condor sevens in two weeks.
