“This could be a benchmark game for where both sides sit this season.”
Amber Dental Gisborne Girls’ High School will look to build on their solid start to the season last weekend when they accounted for JNL Paikea by a couple of goals, and playing YMP B should suit them nicely at 7.30pm tomorrow.
“It should be a good contest though, certainly for the YMP ladies a step down in intensity from their encounter with their ‘A’ team last Saturday.
“I would however expect Girls’ High to win it if they can contain Mel Knight, who scored four goals last weekend.”
The Saturday programme of games starts at 12pm when Gisborne Boys’ High School step out against the Lytton Old Boys Masters, the students fresh from their winning opener against NZ Fruits LOB.
“Boys’ High should produce back-to-back wins but the Masters will make them work for it,” Scragg said.
“Redemption beckons for the students, who lost to the Masters in last season’s senior men’s B grade final.”
At 1.45pm Saturday the NZ Fruits Lytton Old Boys face the daunting task of a YMP A men’s team obviously poised for another big season.
“If the Fruits thought it was tough last week against Boys’ High, it will get a whole lot tougher on Saturday afternoon.
“You would expect YMP to win and win well.”
THC will no doubt keep the foot on the accelerator when they meet YMP B in the 3.30pm game.
“It will probably be a one-sided affair. I would be surprised if it is not another Tamanay Tuhou show.”
Tuhou scored six goals last Saturday.
The women get back on the turf at 5.15pm when GMC Green start their season against Te Aowera.
“I think it will be another one-sided game, in the Green Machine’s favour,” Scragg said.
“Green will be making their season opener so perhaps the scoreline will not be too high. We shall see.”
GMC Gold and JNL Paikea complete the weekend’s games at 7pm Saturday.
“Paikea should bounce back from last weekend.
“But Gold showed last weekend how gritty they are with their good win over YMP B, so it could be close.”
