Gisborne surfer Saffi Vette has continued her rise up the Women’s Qualifying Series rankings.
Vette achieved a career-best fifth placing at the World Surf League’s Mandurah Pro QS1000 in Western Australia this week.
She won her round 1 heat with a score of 13.10 (6.25, 6.85) out of a possible
20 for her two best waves and was second in round 2 with 12.15 (6.5, 5.65).
It put her into a two-woman quarterfinal heat against Alysse Cooper, who won with 12.60 to Vette’s 11.85 (5.0, 6.85).
Vette’s fifth-equal earned her 420 points — surpassing her ninth-equal finish at the Carve Pro in Maroubra, Sydney, in January — and lifted her 21 placings up the QS rankings to 141st.
