NETBALL by Sherrill Beale

THE senior netball finals will be played tomorrow morning at Victoria Domain.

9am — A Grade: FarmCare HSOG v YMP (2).

These two teams have met in all three rounds this season, with High School Old Girls winning in rounds 1 and 3 and YMP winning in Round 2. This should be a closely contested game.

A Reserve: Whalis v GGHS Jnr A.

A Reserve saw one of the biggest upsets of the semifinals round when Gisborne Girls’ High School Jnr A beat Steve Craill Builder Ngatapa for the first time this season (Ngatapa had previously lost games only to Whalis).

The experienced Whalis have been unbeaten in the grade for rounds 2 and 3, and booked their finals’ spot with a dominant performance.

The final will be a tough match for the students, but they should have increased their confidence after the semifinal win.

First Grade: OBM Blue v Gis Glass Ngatapa.

OBM Blue were unbeaten in Round 3 and have won both match-ups with Gis Glass Ngatapa in rounds 2 and 3.

They will be eager to etch their name on the winner’s trophy after just missing out on the final in 2020.

Gis Glass Ngatapa have won their past four games so this should make a well contested game.

11am — Prem Reserve: Horouta Taimana v Tatapouri Sportsfit.

These two teams first met in the Challenge Round, with Horouta Taimana winning by one goal and earning promotion from A Grade up to the inaugural Prem Reserve.

In rounds 2 and 3, the teams won a game each and finished the competition rounds seeded first and second, so this is anticipated to be a competitive final.

First Reserve: Zeafruit Ngatapa v Claydens Waikohu (4).

The First Reserve semis were full of excitement, The Claydens Waikohu (4) match against Tatapouri Sportsfit Social was drawn at fulltime and extra time had to be played.

Claydens Waikohu (4) scored the next two goals of the game and secured their finals spot.

They’ll play off against Zeafruit Ngatapa. They’ve met twice this season, with the teams each taking a one-goal win. This should be another close battle.

Second Grade: YMP Manawanui v OBM Red Social.

When facing each other in the competition rounds, these two teams have taken a win each, so this is looking like another exciting match-up.

To satisfy Level 2 restrictions, spectators are unable to attend the games and at the end of each round, prizegiving will be held before the players exit the courts and the other teams enter the area.
