RIPPERS, a surf programme provided by Gisborne Boardriders Club, is back and will enrol 40 young surfers this Wednesday.

It is for kids aged from five to 12 years and is designed to get more people surfing in the district and improve their skills.

Each intake will have five weeks of surfing tuition with experienced volunteer coaches.

The young surfers will be broken into four ability levels, with 10 in each group.

Rippers registrations opened yesterday on the Gisborne Boardriders website www.gisborneboardriders.com.

A second intake will open on March 12 and lessons will start on March 21.

Lessons will take place each Wednesday at a variety of beaches in the area, depending on conditions.
