Gisborne BMX Club members are hosting riders from all over the North Island — and one rider from Christchurch — at two meetings this weekend.

Tomorrow the club will hold the Bikeys Gisborne meeting at its track in Lytton Road. Practice is from 11am and racing starts at 1pm.

On Sunday, the club will host the Central Region BMX Champs at the same venue, with practice from 10am to 10.30, and racing from 11am.

Both meetings are classed as qualifying meets for the nationals, which will be held in Tauranga over Easter weekend.

Club president and meeting manager Glenn Wells said BMX riders had to compete in at least four qualifying meetings to be eligible to race at the national championships.

By competing at both the Gisborne meetings, riders will have fulfilled half of their qualifying requirement.

Thirty Gisborne riders would be joined by 80 visitors for each meeting.

The entries included riders from Hamilton, Auckland, Wellington, Tauranga, Hawke's Bay, Rotorua, Taupo and Christchurch.
