Gisborne BMX rider Reave Nepia Anderson will trial for her spot in the Mighty 11s on Friday.
This is a test style of racing with two teams of four competing against each other. Traditionally a home-and-away series is held between New Zealand and Australia.
The racing is intense for both
sides as they compete for their countries. Currently the plan is to select the team with the hope of the borders with Australia being open, otherwise it will be a north-versus-south showdown.
Reave and her family have been putting in the hard yards, training several times a week to help Reave gain an edge and achieve a major BMX milestone.
Krystal Smith, who was one of the club's last representatives, commented on the pride she felt pulling on a Mighty's jersey and representing her country — and the benefit of training and racing in an elite team environment, as usually this is an individual sport.
