KARTING by Rockin’ Robin

The racing was keen at Eastland Kart Club’s seventh points meeting of the season.

In the rookies class, wins went to Conrad Gooch (2) and Nixon Gooch.

Second placings went to Nixon (2) and Conrad.

This is a great learner class, and these five-to-eight-year-olds are getting faster each meeting.

Koby Gooch won two races in the junior KTs. Hayley de la Haye had a win and two thirds, Luca Vita had two seconds and Daniel Tamanui had a second and a third.

In the KT heavies, Wayvern Vause won two races and had a third placing.

Buck Rogers grabbed a win, a second and a third — the whole set.

Dion Lund had two seconds and a third.

In the women’s class, Crystal Callaghan showed some pace in her Rotax as she won all three races.

Lyn Lyle, 69, had a great day, picking up three second placings.

Robyn de la Haye got three thirds and Tessa Irvine, three fourths.

In the Rotax pro class, Shanan Gooch won all three races, Harley Davies had three seconds, Cole Rosie had two thirds and Roger Moss had one.

At one point, the underside of Moss’s kart could be seen as he was close to tipping it over again.

In the KT lights, karts were going off the track all over the place. Wins went to Jake Callaghan, Spring Thomson and, with his new kart, Robert de la Haye.

Seconds went to Spring Thomson (2) and Robert de la Haye, who also had a fourth.

Third placings went to De la Haye, Mike Vita and Jake Callaghan.

At the end of the meeting, 15 karts lined up for a feature race.

Rotax driver Shanan Gooch worked his way to the front for the win.

Lyn Lyle shocked herself by coming home second. Luca Vita was third and Spring Thomson, fourth.

This was Gooch’s third feature win this season.

There are four meetings to go this season — Apil 18 and 26, and May 2 and 9.
