IT was a great day for Glenys Whiteman (skip), Marie Wright (3), Dayvinia Mills (2) and Ngamiro Allen (lead) when they won the Ohope Bowling Club's prestigious Paradise Women's Open Fours.

The tournament attracted 28 teams from all over the North Island.

The Whiteman four won all seven of their games. They were the only team to achieve a perfect record and so were outright winners of the tournament.

They defeated teams from Te Awamutu (21-4), Te Puke (14-8), Ohope (11-8), Auckland Composite (12-8), Mairangi Bay North Shore (11-5), Pukekohe (13-8) and another one from Ohope (12-10, their last and toughest match) to secure the tournament win with a total match differential of plus-44.

Of the two outdoor carpet greens used over the two days, the back green proved the more challenging.

The club is waiting for a new carpet to replace it.

The Ohope Club has to be congratulated for organising and running the event to a high standard.

Once again, the catering provided for all the teams was top class.

A point of interest to local bowlers was that the skip of the runners-up — who had six wins and a draw — was former Kahutia bowler Denise Te Momo, who now plays out of Te Awamutu.
