NETBALL

WHANGARA Old Girls will need to sort out their error rate to stand much of a chance against YMP in the match-of-the-day premier grade netball tomorrow at Victoria Domain.

The premier games in the Pakn’Save competition begin at 10am with the encounter between Horouta Gold and Gisborne Girls’ High senior A.

“Both of those teams have struggled for wins, but have played higher seeded teams,” said netball commentator Sherrill Beale.

Girls’ High recorded a win against Ritana Snr A while Horouta Gold have had four losses.

“On paper, the students should take this, but Horouta Gold is a team that can upset others, so the students will need to play as a team for the full game.

“Otherwise the experienced heads in the Horouta side will cause them problems.”

The second premier match at 12-midday has Taste One High School Old Girls up against Claydens Waikohu 1.

“High School Old Girls have been playing good netball and their connections are well organised,” Beale said.

“They are speedy and support each other through the court.

“Waikohu have had some good passages of play, but will need to do that for the full game if they want to stop HSOG’s run.”

The third match starts at the later time of 1pm.

“Whangara Old Girls and YMP Sunshine Brewery are sitting at the top of the table on the same points and both will want to still be there after this game.

“I am expecting this to be a close contest,” Beale said.

“YMP have been playing strong netball and working together through the court.

“Whangara on the other hand are still working with their connections between players, and last Saturday they made errors that let High School

0ld Girls pull ahead,” she

said.

“They will need to eliminate those errors, because YMP will pressure them for the full game.”

Beale said the court would be busy tomorrow with the return of the Intermediate and Secondary grades.

“We welcome them back to start their 2020 season.”

The first round of games begins at 9am, with matches through to the last round starting at 2pm.
