Midweek netball in the YMCA tomorrow night promises two of the most exciting match-ups to date this Pak’nSave premier grade season.

Horouta Gold and Claydens Waikohu 1 start the night at 6pm, then a YMP Sunshine Brewery take on Whangara Old Girls at 7.30pm.

“Both teams in the early game tomorrow night struggled in their last outings and suffered losses, said netball commentator Sherrill Beale.

“Horouta and Waikohu will have targeted this game as one they can win. It was close between last time they met, so expect the same tomorrow night.”

Waikohu coach Cheryl Te Rito expects a good game. “It always is against Horouta. The girls are looking forward to it.

Te Rito said they still had work to do on their mid-court.

“The aim tomrorow night is to fix up our error rate, which has not been good lately. We need to get things sorted out pretty quickly if we want to be in the top four.”

How Horouta rebounds from their 23-goal thumping by Girls High School Senior A on Saturday remains to be seen.

The 7.30pm clash has all the hallmarks of another classic between YMP and Whangara.

YMP won by two goals last time they met.

“However, they have been working very well as a team this round and have strength in all areas of the court,” Beale said.

“Whangara Old Girls have been a little inconsistent this round, so they will need to bring their top game for this one.”

YMP coach Ingrid Brown said Whangara were always strong contenders.

“We are expecting a fast-paced and physical match. All I want is for the girls to play a consistent game and produce a full four-quarter performance.”

Whangara’s training mates Lytton Senior A gave them a lesson in “stickability” last week when the students showed grit to come back from 10 goals down before losing by six.

Whangara will need to play for the full hour to stay with YMP tomorrow night.
