TE Wharau School team have been in sensational form at the Air New Zealand National Rippa Rugby Championship in Wellington this week.
The Poverty Bay champions this morning made the championship final after defeating South Canterbury 50-25 in the quarterfinals and Counties Manukau 30-10 in the semifinals. They went throughyesterday’s pool play of the two-day tournament unbeaten to qualify second in their pool (on points differential behind Auckland) and seal a place in the quarterfinals.
Te Wharau (under the banner of the Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union) defeated Wellington 55-5, drew 15-all with Auckland and defeated Wairarapa Bush 50-0 and Canterbury 25-10.
The tournament features 200 players in 20 provincial champion school teams.
The quarterfinals were South Canterbury v Poverty Bay, Northland v Auckland, Tasman v North Harbour and Counties Manukau v Manawatu.,Poverty Bay on fire at Rippa nationals
