Dynamic duo Pauline Stone and Nanette Treloar racked up their seventh Poverty Bay East Coast Ladies’ Pairs crown as a combination last weekend.

Warren Gibb and teenager Sean Haskins won the Men’s Pairs.

Both championships were held at the Waerenga-a-Hika Hall on Sunday and each featured seven pairs.

Four men’s and three women’s pairs qualified for post-section play after the preliminary rounds.

In the ladies’ semi-final, the experience of Marise Raklander and Lois Lamont was to the fore in a 13-1 victory over Zoe Trowell and Vikki Haskins.

They went on to face indoor bowls stalwarts Stone and Treloar in the final.

Stone and Treloar led 4-2 after five ends, but a mistake by Stone in the sixth, when she killed the kitty, left them trailing 5-4.

The next two ends were evenly matched and Raklander and Lamont went into the ninth and last end 6-5 ahead.

With her last bowl, Stone, in her characteristically calm fashion, dragged the kitty back for two shots and a 7-6 win.

It was the 17th centre title for Stone and 22nd for Treloar, and the seventh Ladies’ Pairs they have won together.

In the men’s semi-finals, Gibb and Haskins beat Dylan Foster and Mike Foster 6-2, while Doc Tipene and David Lynn came from 8-0 down to tip Malcolm Trowell and Jason Trowill 10-8.

The final started as a tense affair, with Gibb and Haskins leading 5-4 after six ends before gaining momentum and going on to win 9-4.

It was the 24th centre title for Warren Gibb and fifth for 16-year-old Haskins.
