POVERTY Bay brought Day 3 of Rawleigh Tournament hockey for under-13 girls to a close with a 2-0 win against Wairapapa.

Unbeaten Poverty Bay were made to work for the three points by a determined Wairarapa, who needed to win the match to stay in the fight for a place in tomorrow’s final.

Wairarapa goalie Hannah Thompson led by example as she and her defenders withstood numerous attacks by Poverty Bay.

But goals from Madison Savage and Oaklea Bowden-Morris sealed the win.

Poverty Bay coach Louise Teneti was happy with her team’s performances so far but said there was always room for improvement.

Teneti said it was an awesome opportunity for her players to play a tournament at home where they had plenty of support from whanau, friends and the community.

She hoped everyone would continue to show up and support Poverty Bay as they worked for a place in the final.

It was something the players had been working towards for the past four years.
