The first two days of this week’s Northern Districts boys’ junior secondary schools cricket tournament in Rotorua were washed out and the fourth T20 was abandoned yesterday afternoon.
There was one result for the Bay — a two-wicket morning loss to Northern Districts Invitation team.
“We took singles and showedintent to score against the Invitation side,” said co-coach Graham Hudson.
The Invitation team won the toss at Neil Hunt Park and elected to bowl. Poverty Bay reached 105-6, with Max Briant scoring 25 runs from 27 balls and Blake Marshall 22 off 19.
With a new ball in hand, Marshall bowled with pace and fire to take three wickets for 14 runs off four overs. Left-arm seamer Travis O’Rourke got 1-17 off four, Briant 1-21 off four and fellow paceman Matthew Foster 1-15 off 3.2.
ND needed five runs off the 20th over for victory, No.9 Riley Brady getting a four and the game ending anti-climactically with a wide from the second delivery of the 20th over.
