Saturday sport produced plenty of entertainment with the start of the Poverty Bay club hockey season adding to the action.

Defending premier women’s champion YMP A began their 2023 campaign against clubmates YMP B on the turf at Harry Barker Reserve and came away with a 3-0 win.

Premier netball teams had a rest but there was no shortage of on-court games at Victoria, including a high-scoring premier reserve clash between Farmlands Ngatapa and High School Old Girls.

Ngatapa won 45-35.

The Poverty Bay premier club rugby competition is hotting up as two teams remain unbeaten after four games — East Coast Farm Vets YMP and Enterprise Cars OBM.

YMP beat a plucky Kevin Hollis Glass Pirate 59-8 while OBM defeated Larsawn Ngatapa 24-7.

YMP and OBM face off this weekend to decide the first-round trophy winners.

Saturdays are only going to get busier as junior sport kicks in.
