Top qualifier Lisa Herbert sealed her spot in the Division 1 final of the New Zealand senior women’s golf championship in Gisborne today with the perfect shot.

The Paraparaumu Beach left-hander sank a 6-iron on the 133-metre 15th hole at the Poverty Bay course to complete a 5 and 3 semi-final victory over Jill Morgan (Cambridge).

It was the fifth ace and another highlight in a highly successful amateur career for the former New Zealand international.

The shot also continued a run of hole-in-ones at the annual tournament in recent years.

Herbert had a lengthy wait to find out her final opponent. The other semi-final went all the way – Northland’s Jenny Peters hitting the par-5 18th for two and opponent Heather Keefe (Rotorua) eventually conceding the hole and match.

The finals of all six divisions of the 92-player over-50s tournament got underway this afternoon.

The tournament is being played on a composite course layout. The 15th is usually the 11th hole.
