THE region's premier men's golf tournament — the Poverty Bay Open — started with strokeplay qualifying on the Awapuni Links course today.
A field of 96 are competing in the three-day Emerre and Hathaway-sponsored tournament featuring 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying followed by six sections of matchplay.
It culminates in
semifinals and finals on Sunday.
The guns are vying for the Scott Plate as the 36-hole top qualifier and the Keiha Cup for Open champions.
The tournament is one of two PB men's opens being played in 2022 as the 2021 edition scheduled for September of last year was postponed due to Covid.
