ONE shot was the difference between first and second in Poverty Bay Bowling Club's winter triples tournament.

Donna Smith (skip), Andrew Ball (director) and June Kinder (lead) won all three of their games to take first place. They had a differential of 20 and won 20 ends with 40 shots.

Second were Dave Hooper (s), Ellen Valentine (d) and Anna Colvin (l), who also won three games and had a differential of 20. However, they won their 20 ends with 39 shots.

Third were Steve Jenkins (s), Lesley McIntosh (d) and Peter Clay (l), who won two games and 19 ends.

Fourth were Dianne Phillips (s), Tony Dobson (d) and Jude Hall (l), who won two games and 17 ends with 39 shots to narrowly beat Andy Tamanui (s), Allan Parker (d) and Joan Gledhill (l), who also won two games and 17 ends but with only 28 shots.

The club's Tiger Turf greens enabled the winter tournament to be held.

A field of 48 players from four clubs enjoyed very competitive bowls in ideal bowling conditions.

Three games of 90 minutes were played.

After the first game players were treated to lunch, which included a variety of delicious soups and buns.

Prizes were presented by new club treasurer Anna Colvin.

The club continues to have roll-ups on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. These are open to members of any club.

Members look forward to opening day on August 28 and welcome new players.
