Sara Lamont and David Lynn continued their great run of form, Lamont winning the centre women’s singles and Lynn, the centre men’s singles.

Lamont was unbeaten in the qualifying rounds, and beat Nanette Treloar in the semifinal. She then came up against Pauline Stone in the final.

After four ends of the nine-end final, the score was 2-2. At 5-2 to Lamont after six ends, the game was starting to swing in Lamont’s favour.

Stone picked up one point on End 7 to trail 5-3, but End 8 was the decider, Lamont drawing three shots to hold an unbeatable lead. Stone decided to play the last end, but Lamont didn’t let up, scoring one more point to win 9-3.

Lynn had some close games before qualifying in the men’s event. He recorded two wins and two draws to qualify, young Nathan Trowell being one of the bowlers to draw with him.

In the last eight, Lynn defeated Kevin Fishburn, then had a titanic battle with young Shaquaid Hihi, Lynn winning a game that came down to the last bowl.

In the final, Lynn came up against Ian Greeks, who played some great bowls to get there. But Lynn turned on the afterburners and led 8-0 after five ends of the nine-end final.

Greeks picked up one shot on End 6, but Lynn came back strongly, picking up two points on End 7 and one point on End 8 to be 11-1 up, which was when Greeks shook hands.

This was Lamont’s second centre title towards her silver star, which players receive when they gain five centre titles. Last year she was in the winning team for the mixed fours (a silver star event). She has also won non-silver-star events the White Family Pairs and handicap singles.

This was title No.128 for Lynn.
