The Poverty Bay team started poorly and were down 12-4 going into the pairs rounds.
Poverty Bay recorded seven wins and a draw from the eight pairs games to fly ahead.
The last section of the day was fours and Poverty Bay couldn’t be beaten. They lost both games but took the overall victory by one point.
Team members were: Pauline Stone, three wins; Lyn Kay-Allen, two wins; Doc Tipene, three wins; Nanette Treloar, three wins; Journey Hihi, four wins; Keita Boyd, two wins and a draw; Warren Edlin, four wins; and Lola Bayram, two wins and a draw.
The South Island indoor bowls team continued on their winning way with a 31-17 win against Poverty Bay-East Coast at Ilminster Intermediate School in Gisborne on Wednesday night.
The South Island had also beaten North Wellington and Horowhenua combined 30-18 on Friday night, Hutt Valley 26-22 on Saturday, Wairarapa/Bush Ruahine 29-19 and Wanganui 35-13 on Sunday, Manawatu 31-17 on Monday night and Hawke’s Bay 25-23 at Napier on Tuesday night.
The only loss had come against Upper Hutt Valley, 25-23, last Saturday night.
In the first round of games against PBEC, the South Island won the women’s singles, triples and fours and the men’s pairs and triples.
The men’s fours were drawn.
Poverty Bay won the women’s pairs and men’s singles, for the South Island to lead 11-5.
In the second round, the South Island won all but the women’s triples and men’s fours to go further ahead, 23-9.
In the final round, the games were halved, four games each.
For the South Island, the men’s triple of Michael Lawson, Brian Hotton and Daniel Sinclair were unbeaten.
The best performance for Poverty Bay was provided by the women’s pair of Lois Lamont and Kaye Easton, who won two of their three games.
