FRIDAY NIGHT CHAMPION: Malcolm Trowell and son Nathan were first and second respectively in indoor bowling’s Poverty Bay-East Coast Friday Night Singles. Malcolm Trowell was in great form, winning the Poverty Bay-East Coast Friday Night Singles, notching up five wins from his five games.

He started the night off with a 13-1 win against Bevan Moore in Round 1, followed by a 16-3 trouncing of Warren Edlin in Round 2.

Trowell’s next win was 15-2 against Sara Lamont. He then had a good game against newcomer Errol Peta in Round 4, winning 9-4.

That was the telling round, as the other two players who had three wins in their first three games were defeated.

One was his son, Nathan Trowell, and the other was David Lynn.

This meant that Malcolm Trowell only had to win his last game against youngster Dylan Foster, which he did 11-5 to earn his 38th centre title and fourth Friday night singles crown.

Nathan Trowell, a very talented 13-year-old sportsman, was runner-up with four wins and 29.5 ends won to Lynn’s four wins and 29 ends won.

The Trowells helped Poverty Bay win the Friendship Trophy against King Country in Tauranga. The Bay team also played Tauranga, Thames Valley and King Country in the Hone Trophy, but Tauranga were much too strong.
