Fifteen-year old Nathan Trowell teamed up with his cousins Matthew Foster, 16, and Dylan Foster, 14, to dominate the Poverty Bay-East Coast indoor bowls centre open triples last weekend.

They defeated David Lynn, Sian Williams and Lois Lamont 10-5 in the nine-end final.

After three ends, Trowell's team led 2-1.

On the fourth end, with Lynn's team holding the shot, Trowell played a stunner of a bowl to push Lynn's only bowl out of the head and pick up three points to cruise ahead 5-1.

Lynn's team came back, though, on End 5, when Lynn played one of Trowell's bowls out of the scoring area to pick up three shots and close it to 5-4.

Ends 6, 7 and 8 belonged to Trowell's team. They played exceptional bowls to pick up five unanswered points to go 10-4 up.

The last end was played, but Lynn's team could manage only one shot and the skips shook hands.

This was the 11th centre title for Trowell, the sixth for Matthew Foster, and the fourth for Dylan.

In the semifinal, Trowell's team defeated other family members — their grandfather Bruce Easton, Nathan's sister Kayla Trowell, who is playing great bowls this year, and Matthew and Dylan's father, Mike Foster.

The event had a great field of 12 teams, including one comprising Buzz Abraham, Kirstyn Harrison and 10-year-old Hazel Reti, who travelled from Hawke's Bay for the tournament.
