“Qualifying was pretty clearcut for us,” Giants captain Ethan Rees said. “But we still had a couple of hard races against the Busters and the Panthers.
“Against the Rebels it was tougher. I ended up getting rolled, but Asher got through to win it well with Brad and Josh just behind him.”
Rees said the final was “brutal”.
“It was a very hard race. A real team effort from all of us secured the win. Asher got across the line first by maybe half the finish straight.
“I’m so proud of the team’s efforts, across all four events.”
Rees said it was particularly pleasing to have introduced new drivers this season in Sean Gooch, McGee and Penn.
“That has future-proofed the Giants.”
Rees said the team were already “really keen” for next season.
“We are going to continue building towards 2026-27.”
While it has not been confirmed, it has been reported that not since 1988 has a team won all superstock teams’ events throughout the country in the one season. The legendary Stratford Scrappers were the dominant force back then.
This season the Giants won the Superstock Teams Extravaganza at Robertson Prestige International Speedway in Palmerston North, Enzed Superstock Teams Championships at the same venue, Wanganui Warriors Teams Challenge at Oceanview Speedway and Superstock Teams Nationals at Waikaraka Park.
To cap a successful Waikaraka weekend, the superstock PTS $2000 winner-takes-all race was won by Penn.
Gisborne Speedway Club president Sam Hughes said it was an “unreal” result for the team and club.
“The Giants have done us all proud this season.”
