Midway athletes won the under-14 boys' board rescue (Jack Lepper and Tyron Evans), the u14 boys' tube rescue (Kyle Seabrook and Tyron Evans), and Ella Sutton won the u12 girls' board final.
The club's silver medals came in the u12 mixed Grand Cameron relay, the u14 boys' board rescue, to Tyron Evans in the u14 boys' surf race, to Harry Hayward in the u12 boys' board race, and to Jodiesha Kirkpatrick in the u14 girls' diamond race.
Evans won bronze in the u14 boys' diamond, Midway were third in the u12 and u14 boys' board relays, and Sutton was third in the u12 girls' diamond.
“It was pleasing to see everyone go so well as an overall team,” Midway sports manager Jared Phelps said.
The club had 28 competitors taking part across the four days.
“Both the under-14 and under-12 Grand Cameron relay teams put in very competitive showings.
“That sort of result, with six competitors in each team, shows the overall depth of our junior surf programme,” Phelps said.
“We had a couple of kids who were there as first-timers, and they stepped up to make semis and finals, which was great.
“I don't think it was something they expected.”
Phelps said it was the club's best result at Oceans for quite some time.
Competing in the u13 girls' division, Chloe Kapene was the standout for Waikanae. She won gold in the beach sprint, board race and diamond.
Rubi Hart won silver in the u13 girls' flags, and Jerome Tamatea, bronze in the u12 boys' board race.
“We were really happy with how our kids went in very testing, sizeable surf all the way through competition,” team manager Michelle Mitchell said.
“Chloe Kapene was outstanding for us. She has so much potential to realise if she continues in the sport.
“We had some athletes competing for the first time, and they now have a deeper passion for the sport.”
Mitchell said everyone in their team stood up.
“They all learned new skills, which is important for their future as good lifeguards when they get older.”
Charlie Keepa was the top performer for Wainui with a gold medal in the u12 girls' run-swim-run, and bronze in the u12 girls' surf race.
The club's u12 girls' board relay team won bronze.
Wainui head coach Dion Williams said that while elder brother Jack Keepa was performing well in the water, Charlie was “shining on her own account”.
“We're really happy with the result,” Williams said.
“We had swell and our kids fronted up.
“Whether they were trying to get through a heat or have a crack in the final, they all gave it some heart and showed good skills.”
