The 159 cars to fight out the New Zealand stockcar championships in Gisborne from tonight were scrutineered today at the Railway Reserve in Grey Street.

The championships start with qualifying at the Eastland Group Raceway. Six groups of cars will do battle for places in tomorrow night’s finals. The titles have drawn drivers from all over the country.

Racing starts at 7pm, following a grand parade of all cars and the official opening by Gisborne mayor Meng Foon.
