Tairāwhti’s first national men’s interprovincial tie under its new association name proved a tight one in Round 1 of the 2023 champs at Paraparaumu Beach golf course this morning.

Tairāwhiti were beaten 3-2 by Manawatū Wanganui in the week-long matchplay team tournament being hosted by the Paraparaumu and Waikanae clubs.

Teenager Zach Rolls, making his national interprovincial debut, turned in an admirable performance at No.4 in the five-man side before falling 2 and 1 to Mitchell Proctor.

William Brown, in his 15th national interprovincial, added another scalp to his collection.

Playing at No.1, Brown defeated Ryan Rooney 3 and 1.
