Tairāwhti’s first national men’s interprovincial tie under its new association name proved a tight one in Round 1 of the 2023 champs at Paraparaumu Beach golf course this morning.
Tairāwhiti were beaten 3-2 by Manawatū Wanganui in the week-long matchplay team tournament being hosted by the Paraparaumu and Waikanae clubs.
Teenager Zach Rolls, making his national interprovincial debut, turned in an admirable performance at No.4 in the five-man side before falling 2 and 1 to Mitchell Proctor.
William Brown, in his 15th national interprovincial, added another scalp to his collection.
Playing at No.1, Brown defeated Ryan Rooney 3 and 1.
The other Tairāwhiti win came from No.3 Hukanui Brown, who defeated Lio Vui 2-down.
No.2 Dan Collier, in his first national interprovincial, lost 3 and 2 to Anthony Ilton-Maher while No.5 Shayde Skudder was beaten 4 and 2 by Regan McConaghty.
Tairāwhiti face Taranaki in Round 2 of the 15-province tournament.
