A SEASONED player will be the first name on the Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club’s newest piece of silverware — the President’s Trophy.

Campbell McFarlane is the inaugural champion after topping a field of 16 in the handicap event involving players who have won or finished runner-up in club competitions this year.

McFarlane defeated David Yee two frames to one in the championship final.

He booked his spot in the last two with a 2-0 semifinal win against Rip Morgan, while Yee eliminated Nathan Coombs 2-1.

Wayne Tautau beat Steve Wood 2-0 in the plate final. In the semis, Tautau knocked out Tiny Thompson 2-1 and Wood beat Rex Kennedy 2-0.

The event attracted a full field of 16, with eight qualifying for the main event and the other eight contesting the plate.

The club’s annual meeting is on Saturday, December 9, at 11am. It will be followed by a snooker dash and barbecue.
