GISBORNE golfer Tessa McDonald contributed a half as Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay ended the Toro women’s national interprovincial on a winning high.

HBPB defeated Wellington 3½-1½ in the playoff for ninth and 10th at the teams’ matchplay tournament held on the Ashburton course.

McDonald, at No.5 in the team, trailed at the halfway stage of her clash with Glenn Hayward but came back to square the match. No.1 Kate Chadwick won 2 and 1, No.2 Janie Field 2-up and No.3 Jaimie McIvor 2 and 1. No.4 Sara Deam lost 5 and 4.

Canterbury won the title for the first time since 1988, defeating Bay of Plenty 5-0 in the final on Saturday.
