Levin surfer Natasha Gouldsbury got the nod over Ava Henderson (Christchurch) in the Year 7 and 8 girls’ division, posting an 11.23-point heat total. Henderson could not match Gouldsbury’s wave selection in the final, and finished second ahead of Piha’s Liv Haysom, third, and the Mount’s Anna Brock.
Tao Mouldey (Mt Maunganui) claimed the Year-6-and-below boys’ division. Over a dozen of the 27 surfers entered in this division made a serious push for the eight semifinal spots.
Mouldey had a 10-point heat total in the final to defeat Cooper Ashill (Whangarei), Theo Morse (Orewa) and Benny Kassell (Gisborne), who filled second through to fourth respectively.
Sophia Brock claimed the title in the Year-6-and-below girls’ division with a 7.33-point heat total to follow in elder sister Anna’s footsteps. Orewa’s Alani Morse finished second ahead of India Kennings (Whangamata), third, and Amanda Gouldsbury (Levin).
