RICARDO Christie has exited the Sydney Pro Qualifying Series contest in a hotly contested Round 3 heat yesterday.

The Gisborne-Mahia surfer finished third in the four-man heat from which the top two advanced to Round 4.

Christie came up just short in totalling 14.07 out of a possible 20 for his two best waves.

He started with a 6.33 ride, then added a 6.77 score, followed by a 7.30.

It was not enough. Championship Tour contender Ian Gouveia won the heat with 15.50 (7.83/7.67) and Tahitian Mihimana Braye was second with 14.86 (8.43/6.43) — 0.79 ahead of Christie.
