Several lifeguards from the Waikanae club have been named in the New Zealand Junior Black Fins surf life saving team to compete at the Lifesaving World Championships 2022.

The team, comprising of six females and six males, will compete in the Youth (U19) division in a variety of pool rescue, ocean and beach events in Italy. “Previous Junior Black Fins teams have set the bar very high,” said SLSNZ youth campaign lead Zac Franich. “We’re very excited to work with this group of talent to carry on the legacy teams before have left.” The 2020 World Championships were postponed due to Covid.

“So the junior Black Fins will finally get the chance to wear the NZ Black beanie for the first time.” From Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae team members include Jack Keepa, Summer Rolston, Lachie Falloon and Oska Smith.

The Championships will be held in Riccione, Italy from September 21 – October 2.
